Thanks Maggie, I have now found grandparents with surname of Townley so that solves that one...I am so jealous of my friend's tree. In a couple of hours, with Elaine's help, I have so many of his relatives that I can't keep pace. Gonna have to go out and buy some big pieces of paper to draw out his tree.
Can't wait to tell him tomorrow what I have found about his mother's tree, of which he knows nothing.Liz

OC many thanks...I would love to be able to tell my friend that he has a long line from his mother's side going back to the Townleys. They seem to all be based in Oswaldtwistle. This looks like his gt grandfather:
