  • Help needed to read name 1901 census

I am going at a cracking pace helping my friend with his Oswaldtwistle, Lancs tree. Can you make out the middle name of the youngest son of William Pickup at 99 Stanhill, Oswaldtwistle:

First name is Thos but the second looks strangely like the surname of the next family down...

Think its Townley - could be wife's brother the family below ??

ps - and wife's sister the family 2 above ???

Thanks champagnegal...the transcript says that. Townley Hall, Burnley would have been a big thing then as well. Will pencil in that possible link with family next door for when I have more time.

I am so grateful for that sister in law staying there...confirms what I needed to know!

If you look further up there is a Peter son of Mary Boardman with the same middle name.

Thanks Maggie, I have now found grandparents with surname of Townley so that solves that one...I am so jealous of my friend's tree. In a couple of hours, with Elaine's help, I have so many of his relatives that I can't keep pace. Gonna have to go out and buy some big pieces of paper to draw out his tree.

Can't wait to tell him tomorrow what I have found about his mother's tree, of which he knows nothing.

The Townleys go right back to the Domesday Book - they link up with my Holdens along the way!

Try A2A and British history online, for LOTS of documents concerning the Townleys.
