  • Tried in Middlesex Born in Middlesex??

In the criminal registers on Ancestry was it usually only people born in the area that got tried in Middlesex ???
Reason I ask is I have a Susan Sarah Keen born Middlesex and she seems to be on there in 1851 as Susan ,in 1853 again as Susan and it says second offence ,then again as Sarah in 1855 this says third ofence ???
I cannot find her anywhere else yet , so would you say its a good chance shes mine ??? thanks

There is a report from the 1853 trial in the Times Digital Archives.
It describes Sarah Keen as aged 39 and an inmate of Islington Workhouse - not sure if that helps!

Surely you would be tried for a crime where you committed it?

They were tried were the offence took place. Still applies today for the initial magistrates' court hearing.

not had any dealings with courts thank goodness, so not up on them except to say we sued a window company some time a go and they tried to make us go to a court nearer to them. which was miles away and we managed to argue our case.
