Vem File..?

I have used my memory sticks to transfer information on to my new windows 7, most of it is pictures, but most of them have now appeared as a Vem File, which I have never heard of, plus I can't open them:(:(....I have googled and it seems the computer has 'changed them to a VEM Film....does anyone know how I can either changed them back to a Jpeg or at least open them up, I know they are all photos, and not music as google sites seem to suggest they might me.....thanks...Lilly
