Hi there, I am pretty new at all of this and have a question about the Isle of Man during the 1851 Census (I hope this is the right place, apologies if not).
Does anyone know of an insitution that existed at the time, in Conchan or Onchan, Douglas? We have traced my father's line back to 1771 and in 1851, my GGG Grandfather is listed as a worker in what appears to be some kind of insitution or asylum according to the Census ... many of the people also listed are down as 'infirm', 'inmate', 'idiot' 'nurse' etc. I have typed everything I can think of into search engines but can find no mention of such a place, just an asylum built some time after 1851 and the use of Castle Rushen earlier in the century.
Thanks for any info anyone can give.
