  • Have mother, need father for child lol

I'm talking about Ann Elizabeth Cook b. Overbury, Worc. about 1848, she appears to have had a son Charles b. 18th July 1848.

According to info. from England re Census March 1851, Anne is shown as unmarried - servant aged 24, housemaid, Oxenball Worcs. (This should be Overbury). She was living with a Henry Malpas, Head, Curate.

She then married James Heaven on 8 Feb 1851at Established church of Corse, Newent, Glos. and had 3 children
Sarah E. Heaven b. abt 1854 Barton St Mary, Glos
Ellen Utina 17 Feb 1855 Barton St Mary, Glos
James Heaven abt 1857 Barton St Mary, Glos

We always knew Ellen as Utanaya - no idea what the name means either Utina or Utanaya

So could someone find a father for Charles, and could someone confirm spelling of Ellens second name?

Hi - there is a Florida Indian Tribe with the name of Utina - http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/florida/ - not sure on the connection to Glos. though! ;-)

Thanks Naomiatt - sounds interesting doesn't it. I rather think the spelling was a transcribing error, as when she was buried in Perth, West Australia - she was Ellen Utanaya Graham.

        From Freebmd index:

        Mar Q 1855 Heaven Ellen Utina Gloster 6a 247

So it seems Utina was spelt that way on her birth cert.

Where was Charles born? There are quite a number of BMD entries for Charles Cook in the September quarter 1848. You may need to purchase his birth cert to see if his Father is shown on it.

If she marriedJames Heaven in Feb 1851 she would be under that name and shown as married on the census. Have you got the right person on the 1851?

In 1848, a son Charles was born July 18th to Anne Cook of Overbury, Spinster. No. 491.
According to info. from England re Census March 1851, Anne is shown as unmarried - servant aged 24, housemaid, Oxenball Worcs. (This should be Overbury). She was living with a Henry Malpas, Head, Curate.
Married Parish Church Corse, 8 September 1851 (see husband). Witnesses to marriage were William Finch & Harriett Turley. Their parents were: William Heaven (Farmer) and John Cook (Stone Mason).
The 1881 Census shows James Heaven aged 57, Carpenter, married of Gloucester Bar+ (see reel) born Ebley, GLS and his wife Anne, also of Gloucester Bar+ aged 53, born at Overbury, Worcestershire.
Ann Elizabeth HEAVEN died of morbus brighter and uraemic coma 1 June 1886 at Millbrook St, Barton St Mary. She was 58, wife of James HEAVEN, a builder, and he was the informant present at the death. Cert No.40Applic No. C000820/D

Married and of full age, Bachelor and Carpenter, of Staunton, Eng. in the Parish Church according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church in the Parish of Corse, County of Gloucester on 8 September 1851. Witnessed by William Finch & Harriett Turley.
1841 Census James 16 apprentice wheelwright in Corse
1851 Census Staunton Nr. Ledbury, Gloucester, James Heaven is shown as Head, unmarried aged 27 Labourer, born Uley, Gloucester.
1861 Census Barton St Mary, shows James living at 200 Regent St, Head, married aged 37, Wheelwright, born Uley.
              Ann aged 33, Worc. Overbury,
Sarah E aged 7, scholar, born Barton St Mary
Ellen aged 6, scholar, born Barton St Mary
James W, 4, scholar, born Barton St Mary
1871 Census also lists son Charles aged 22/24. James is 47 (Carpenter), Charles (Carpenter 22/24) & James W (14, scholar) born Gls.
In Sept 1875, James Heaven is living at 10 Jersey Place, Millbrook Street, Glos. Sarah & Ellen not on 1871 census (they would have been 16 & 17).

I hope this helps. Ann's son is shown on 1851 census with his grandfather, John Cook. I dont appear to have the 1851 Census for James Heaven, although I had notes (see above)

I dont know where Charles was born.

If she marriedJames Heaven in Feb 1851 she would be under that name and shown as married on the census. Have you got the right person on the 1851
She was not married at the time of 1851 census. James (her husband to be) is shown as single. 1851 Census shows Anne Cook, unmarried - servant, 24, housemaid, born Oxenball (Overbury) Worcest. She was working for Henry Malpas, Head, Curate.
