    Please can anyone tell me where I have to send in Oz for a death certificate?
    I don't have full Ancestry so cannot look up the death, I know it's in November 1980, and in probably Melbourne area, as that is where the rest of the family live, it's for an Edmund Maurice Heavens dob 11th September 1933, Melbourne

    Each of the states has it's own registration system.

    Victoria has it's own BMD site, but newer records won't be online, because of privacy laws.

    This link should have all the info you need.

    Historical records (from their site):
    The Historical Index contains entries relating to:

    * births in Victoria from 1853 to 1908
    * marriages in Victoria from 1853 to 1942
    * deaths in Victoria from 1853 to 1985
    * church baptisms, marriages and burials in Victoria from 1836 to 1853.

    Each entry includes the:

    * name of the person or people to whom the entry relates
    * type of event (such as a birth, baptism, marriage, burial or death)
    * registration number
    * registration year
    * other information relevant to the type of event.
    Victoria does allow the purchase of uncertified historical records - including in digital format. These are much less expensive than a certified copy, of course.
