  • advice please?

Has anyone any advice / ideas how to find an immigrant who came to this country during or right after the war ?...I might be wrong but he may have been one of the Polish fighter pilots or plane crew...he was born in 1925 so he would have had to have been only 19 to 20 at the end of the war....any advice / links etc really appreciated.....cheers...allan;)

having googled this mans surname NAJGEBAUER it would appear it is also Ukranian and this man could have bee a POW Ukranian soldier that was sent from Italy in 1946......any advice please ?....allan......

You might possibly be able to find a record in the London Gazette (online) if he was later naturalised as a British Citizen

    Cheers

Hi...no, it's not pay per view..next to his surname in very small print was the surname - says he is Polish, an engineer of 81 Grange Park Crescent, Leeds 8 and he naturalised on 17th October, 1960. I'm sure that Julian who lived in Richmond and applied in 1953, is also connected. He was also Polish.

                    Sussex. 31 August, 1953.
When you use the LG and click on the pdf, the info comes up..if you have a more common surname, it's best to do an advanced search and reverse the names as well - like Peter Smith and Smith Peter etc

Hope you find out more! ; -) As Sue mentioned, check in the LG first for poss naturalisations, change of names etc
Sometimes if you're lucky, the info will be available to view on line with the UK Archives. In this case, I don't think it's there to view, but you can contact them by email to see if they can help you further....or perhaps ask if someone is going there in person to ask on your behalf.

If he was in the Polish Army under British Command, you might be able to send for his Army record.
We were able to write to the Army archives (Polish Section) and receive useful information about someone living in UK just after the war....plus photo.
Our man was born in Poland 1922. His UK death certificate only gave Poland as place of birth, so the family information and birthplace on the Army records was invaluable.

Was he from a part of Poland that was absorbed into Germany perhaps?
My godfather was German (Polish) and was brought to England as a prisoner of war. I'm not sure if he was captured in Italy, but he did fight in Italy.

Hi - if this link works, it's worth e mailing the UK Archives - for both Czeslaw and Julian - if you tell them when they natualised etc (use info from the LG) - they should be able to tell you how to apply for their naturalisation info..http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/c...?id=1&action=1
This is worth a read as well http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/d...ine/aliens.asp and

The files might be closed under FOI, but you can apply to have them opened.
