Date for photo please

Can anyone date this photo please (I presume it's a boy in a dress!)

I would have thought the child was too old to be a boy in a dress. Together with a necklace and basket of flowers I think its a girl, in spite of the short hair. Perhaps she'd been ill (or even had nits!!!)

Just my opinion. Not expert enough to date it but later 19C perhaps?

Same person?

s a girl in that first photo. Could this be her a few years older, do you think? I'm particularly looking at the eyes and mouth:

and both photos were taken by the same photographer in Southampton!

They certainly look quite similar. Could be just sisters though! Love the smocking on the second one's dress. My Granny used to smock dresses for me and even my daughter (Granny was in her 80s when my daughter was born!)
