  • Where can I get inquest details?

    Does anyone know where I get get inquest details for the following incident which is recorded on a death certificate.

    Charles Abbot Iles age 42 - inquest 12th, 15th & 24th June & 2nd July 1875. Somerset Coroner - Sam Craddock

    Commercial Traveller died hit by train at Bathampton in Bath.

    You can try the local records office, though the survival of inquest records is rather hit and miss.

    Alternatively, the local papers probably had a report of the inquest.

      There is quite a long report about the accident in the Bristol Mercury.

          It's not one of the major accidents listed in L T C Rolt's "Red for Danger".
