  • Obtaining pre 1858 wills

I would like to obtain copies of pre 1858 wills made by persons in the outskirts of Manchester (Davyhulme/Urmston/Flixton) and Bury. Could somebody please let me know where I can obtain these? I have exact dates for some but just the year for others. Also, pardon my ignorance, but what do Supra and Infra mean?

    Many thanks.

According to this supra wills were where the estate was more than £40 and infra less than £40

I've used references from the Lancashire Will Search site (2nd link in Jackie's post) to obtain several wills from Lancashire Record Office: http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/educati...s_research.asp
Just send them an e-mail with your enquiry, stating the references from the Lancashire Will Search site, and they'll send you back a quotation/order form and payment details.

Supra and infra are explained on the Help page of the Lancashire Will Search site: http://www.xmission.com/~nelsonb/lwsh.htm
Infra = Wills proved at Chester that had a personalty of less than 40 £
Supra = Wills proved at Chester that had a personalty greater than 40 £
