I have successfully traced my family back to about 1800 in Roydon, but cannot get any further. Can anyone advise me on how to get past the barrier.
Thomas Vines, my ancester was a Victualler (or Innkeeper) and we have gone through the local Parish Records for St. Peter's Church where we have found many members of the family. However, Thomas seems to have a close connection in the church as his name appears on many records as a witness, but we cannot find any information on his birth location or his marriage. Based on childrens ages he would have been born about 1750. There appears to be a family connection with The White Hart but can't find if he was the licensee as records only show back to 1854 and the brewery ownership changed in recent years. Appreciate any help here to go back earlier.
