  • Wild card searching on Ancestry - Good news

Don't think it has been mentioned yet.
Ancestry has just improved the wild card searching. You can now put a wild card in the front.
I've just tried William *eorge and it found George, Eorge, Fitzgeorge, St George, McGeorge.

You can also have one in the middle of the name: Ge*ge

    More information here.

Thanks for that - off to try it out shortly and see if I can find my folk that are in hiding.

Fantastic! Must now go back and try some other searches for elusive names!

There are still some restrictions, though - how annoying. It says:

              # Either the first or last character must be a non-wildcard character.
For example, "Han*" and "*son" are okay, but not "*anso*"

              # Names must contain at least three non-wildcard characters.
For example, "Ha*n" is okay, but not "Ha*"
