Can anyone find any info on the following children all born to Thomas Meager and Alice Bell in Croydon:-

Thomas MEAGER was born in 1774 in Croydon.
William MEAGER born on 5 Mar 1777 – My direct ancestor...I have info for him
John MEAGER was born in 1779 in Croydon.
George MEAGER was born in 1781 in Croydon.
Francis MEAGER was born in 1783 in Croydon.
Jacob MEAGER was born in 1786 in Croydon.
Robert MEAGER was born in 1790 in Croydon.

I can’t find burial info or marriage details. I have looked through the parish records at Croydon Local Studies Library but didn’t find anything?? Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

A few possible deaths Deb? Sorry, I can't find anything that looks very likely on 1841 or 1851. Non of the birth dates fitted the names.

    Deaths
    George Meager - March 1838 - Croydon 4 53
    " " June 1846 - Croydon 4 73
    " " December 1857 - Croydon unreadable
    John Meager - June 1860 - Croydon - 2a 117
Chrissie passed away in January 2020.

                Hi Gwen and Chrissie,

I have seen those records but I actually looked them up a couple of years ago at the library - The Thomas Bap - I know it says Thomas and Anne as parents but I have always suspected that it should read Thomas and Alice, I do have this recorded in my tree that he might not be a sibling - Sorry I should have siad that in my post...

I have a theory about Jacob - Do you think he might have gone by the name James in adult life?? I was just looking through some old research and came accross a family of James and Harriot Meager and children that I haven't linked up anywhere.....YOu never know. I cancelled my ancestry sub last month as I had not done any research for a very long time - Looks like i'll be getting my debit card out!!!!

Thanks Gwen! I think I'm going to delve into James and Harriet's family and hope I find something that links him in - Clutching at straws, I know. Does anyone else have Jacobs that changed their name to James??

Well Jacobus is the latin for James so it's entirely feasible.

Thanks for your thoughts on this! I was hoping that researching James Meager and Hariet Tuck's family might prove or dis-prove that he was actually Jacob but, they're proving to be a tricky bunch to track down also!!!! On another note, as I was trawling through parish records on ancestry I finally found the marriage of my 3xggf!!!!!! I had been looking for this for about 5 years and spent many hours at record offices and archives trawling marriage records - I had worked my way from Norwood (Lambeth) where they lived back to Croydon (Surrey) where they came from but I was looking in the wrong place they actually got married in the other direction - Brixton !!! I think this is gunna be a great year for research!!!!
