  • What happened to George Owen Harris??

I have a mystery with someone in my tree...can you help me solve it?

    1881 Welford
    George Harris, 45, Ag Lab.
    Betsey Harris, wife, 44
George. O. Harris, 14. Ag lab ( O is for OWEN)
    George. H. Harris, 11 ( H is for Henry)
    William 5
    Herbert 3.

Note: The 2 Georges are with same parents on the 1871.

    1891 Welford on Avon.
George H, now 20, is still with parents.

1891 H.M Prison Warwick St Mary.
OWEN GEORGE HARRIS, PRISONER, 24, Ag Lab b WELFORD.

SO....what had Owen/George done to get himself put into jail??? & why
is there no sign of him again on any census?? I really would appreciate any help with this mystery. Many thanks.

There are a lot of George Harris entries in the criminal records For Warwickshire, but no George Owen.
Nearly all entries are repeated larceny charges, with notes it is a repeated offence.
Most are imprisonment for a few months to a year, but not one that would cover him being there in 1891, though the Frederick George Harris one would.

I look forward to hearing what the certificate says about his death. Looks like he probably died in prison.

My thanks to you, Elaine, for this really vital information...you can be sure that I will be investigating further. I am intrigued as to HOW an ag lab could be found guilty of embezzlement...Mmmm! My thanks again for your help.
