  • Photo editing program for Windows 7?

Can anyone please tell me if there is a good photo editing program for Windows 7? I've just upgraded from windows XP & was using Photo Suite which I've been happy with for 7 years, but now when I go onto the Photosuite website I find there is no update to 7 only for vista. I need to re-size some of my photos for card-making so can't use the one directly from the printer or from the Canon camera Zoombrowser page.
    Help needed PLEASE......

I don't know about Windows 7, but in ZoomBrowser EX you can resize pictures by clicking on Export > Export Still Images, and then ticking the box for "Resize images during export"

Are you sure you can't resize with your printer software? What printer do you have?

I have both a Canon camera and a Canon printer. The printer came with Canon's Easy-PhotoPrint software, which automatically resizes to certain formats - you can choose the paper size, and you can choose from various layouts. You can also trim/crop photos in the program itself.

I gather Windows 7 doesn't come with built-in Photo Gallery software, which is instead available through Windows Live. This also has some resizing options. See: Resize photos in Windows Live Photo Gallery

Also, if you have Microsoft Office 2003 or 2007, you should have Microsoft Office Picture Manager, which also enables resizing.

Thanks so much for that. I only got my new computer last week so everything is a bit of a minefield. It's so annoying when things are in a different place & you're in a hurry to find them:xmas_frown:
I'll try the links & let you know how I get on later
(Printer is a Canon MP980 but you have to download the manual)

As well as the manual, you can download drivers and printing software from the Canon site. Here's the link: PIXMA MP980

This includes Easy-PhotoPrint EX for Windows, and Easy-WebPrint EX, both compatible with Windows 7.

Did the printer come with any photo editing software? My Canon MP800 came with ArcSoft PhotoStudio, although I have since purchased Photoshop Elements, so I use that instead.

Can someone please tell me what Windows Live is? (In old English Please). When googled there appear to be so many versions.

Does this mean that emails are on a MS site or are they saved on my PC?

Do you still get the option to compose an email before you send it and save it in Drafts?

                Thank you,

                  Hi Margaret,

Windows Live is a collection of programs, as explained here: What is Windows Live? All you need to stay in touch and keep your life in sync

Yes, you can save messages to your computer and work offline:
"Send and receive e‑mail from multiple accounts—Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo! Mail Plus, and more, save the most important messages to your computer, and work offline when you want."
Windows Live brings your computer to life

Here's some more information about Windows Live Mail
"Say you’re offline, but you need to check the address on a party invite you got the other day. No problem. Older messages and calendar events are accessible in Mail, even when you’re offline. You can compose a reply, and then sync and send messages the next time you reconnect."

                    Sarah,

Thank you so much for the links I will read them later. It all looks interesting to me. Often I like to create my email in Word and 'doctor' as needed before I send it. I was also worried that everyone would be able to read it if not exceedingly careful.

                    Happy Christmas and New Year.

Thanks Cloggie I've dowloaded Easy Photoprint EX & had a play with it but I think I used the wrong word when I said I wanted to "resize" my pictures as I really meant that I wanted to be able to print them at say 2" x 3" & not the standard 4" x 6". I was easily able to do this on my old Photosuite program & also choose where on the paper I wanted them to be so I could use all the sheet without waste.
My printer also came with ArcSoft but this is not compatible with Windows 7.:xmas_no:

I see what you mean. Easy-PhotoPrint does have various sizes, but all preset as far as I can see. There are a variety of sizes though, and it is possible to print multiple copies and different pictures on one sheet of paper. You can choose from different paper sizes, but those are all preset too, as are the positions on the paper.

I found this on the ArcSoft forum about support for Windows 7: ArcSoft Forums: Windows 7 support
                        Not much use though. :(
I think I did install a patch when I changed to Vista, but it still never worked properly. :xmas_mad:

There's a free program called PhotoFiltre which will allow you to resize images to your own dimensions. I don't know if it works with Windows 7, although it does work with Vista. Here's the link to the free version: Graphisme et utilitaires

I know some people on FTF use Picasa, which is also free: Picasa 3: Free download from Google
I have no experience with it myself though, so don't know what options are available exactly.

dows XP had a 'power toy' add-in that could resize images just by rightclicking on them.
Someone has adapted the code so that it now works in Windows 7

With Windows Vista I find that I can resize the image easily. The problem I have is printing a suitable size.

I have an HP Photosmart 2575 (three years old) and it seems to get updates of some sort daily. I am certain when I first had this printer I had more options than now. I like the smaller print almost a large thumb nail. Or I go for four prints to an A4 page and this one I find difficult now.
I also have Picasa and used to be able to select any size that I liked but it is when my printer kicks in that things go wrong.

I'm not familiar with HP printers, but you may find something useful here: HP Photosmart 2575 All-in-One Printer - HP Customer Care including downloads for the latest versions of the Photosmart software.

Is there anything of use in the User Manual? For example, under "Set photo print options" on page 64: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00485365.pdf

Photo suite can run also under Windows 7. Windows 7 has an option, older programmes in the respective Windows XP or Windows ME/98 - start.
I use alone the old Picture Publisher 8.0 under Windows 7 and Corel Draw 10. - no problem.
It is usually easier to work with the usual programmes,
but to turn the automatic functions off in the new programmes.
