Ancestry renewal is this a joke ???

Just had an email from them to say they will be taking
$449.95 on the 18th Jan when my sub runs out GULP
On my reckoning thats £278.91 surely thats nor right ?
I know I managed to get the special Australian deal when I last took it out but thats ridiculous

... and if you want it a bit cheaper then buy Family Tree Maker 2010 World edition and get a free six month subscription to World Ancestry
for £67.59 (although not sure if Amazon charge for postage to UK addresses)

I think its like everything else, you have to shop around for the best deals,

I still had some of my old sub left, but upgraded to WW and got £50 refunded, so really my WW sub has only cost £105.00 or thereabouts

As far as I am aware the World sub covers everything Ancestry has to offer - doesn´t matter if you log in to the co.uk site, .com site, australian site, german site etc. - it covers all records.

If you don´t then subcribe to the UK site - with the Premium package - cost is 107.40 pounds

.. might also be worthwhile looking at one of the cash back sites to see if you can get a further discount via them. Heather probably the best one to advise on that!

I suppose not really Elaine ,thing is I took out a years sub on FMP with the 20% discount Tom paid for it for Xmas but wish I hadn't as I prefer Ancestry, the only thing I regularily use FMP for is the 1911 census records wish I had only had that and used the other money towards Ancestry now .

I notice on the Australian site that the World package fee of $299.88 is an introductory offer for first timers only and that "subscription will renew at the standard price". However nowhere can I find what the standard price is - presumably what they want to charge you Val! A bit cheeky tho!

Have just told Ancestry that I will not be renewing my subscription in January, been with them for five years. This is not primarily about the price rises but the fact that they took away records that were previously available to me when they restructured the pricing system. And to rub salt into the wound they had that half price offer earlier this year which, because of my renewal date, was no good for me.

Have taken out a six month sub with FMP, incl 1911, to see how I get on with them. At least they offer loyalty discounts on renewal.
