I would be grateful for any advice on the following please;
By tracing backwards I have discovered that my GGrandfather, Alfred CHARLTON, was born on 23/10/1869 in the Union Workhouse, Stockton to Mary Jane CHARLTON. I have his BC and he is obviously illegitimate as there is no father mentioned and Mary Jane's residence is given as the workhouse.
Is there any way I can find out who his father may have been? I am also having difficulty finding out about his earlier years until he married Margaret Kirtley on 16th June 1894 in Auckland, Durham.
Thanks for reading, any help appreciated.
