This is a long shot, but would anyone have any idea where to search for records of births in Indonesia in late 1800's (Dutch East Indies). (There is nothing on the Wiki)

Brick wall in Ireland demolished after 25 years! Looking for any more Carrolls of Stradbally Parish, Waterford in particular Thomas Carroll b1861 married Bridget Leavy 1896 in QLD Australia..chipping away!
If they were "British" it might be worth checking the GRO Consular registrations - available on Find My Past and also free on another site (but I can never remember which one it is - sorry)
If Dutch - or other nationality - a couple of sites that might be worth checking out:

Thanks Cloggie, I had a look at those, but unfortunately they do not cover the time I was searching. It might be that the records I want were among those destroyed, but I will keep looking.

I don't understand - you said late 1800s. :conf: What period exactly?
The IGV Civil Registry pages mention births from the late 1800s. Did you click on "continue" to view the list of records inventoried so far?
Once you're on the continue page: The Civil Registry of the Dutch East-Indies : *a survey
Click on a city/residency, and then on the following page click on the balls to see what has been inventoried so far (so there should be more records available than those listed).
As explained on the site, you can order the records to view at your local LDS Family History Centre.
The Roosje Roos site only covers marriages and deaths at this time, with their death records covering 1815-1894 as well as 1907-1911 and some years after 1923: Roosje Roos
Roosje Roos a genealogical research agency specialising in Dutch, Dutch-Indonesian and Dutch-Jewish genealogy. You could mail them to see if they can point you in the right direction.
It doesn't look like there are many (if any) extracted records on the IGI. As you didn't say what names you're looking for, I've tried a search for Indonesian records with a couple of common Dutch names (Jansen, De Vries) and it brings up plenty of records, but all submitted.
But, as explained on the IGV site, the LDS has filmed many Indonesian records, but by the looks of things it will be matter of ordering the films and trawling through them.
Sorry, I misled you, as when I originally posted I was thinking of my grandfather, who was late 1800's but the one who is the real brick wall is my g grandfather who was born in Semarang in 1852 - just before the period the records start on IGI. His name was Franciscus Carolus Meulenhoff, and there do not seem too many records for that name.
Thanks for your help, I will keep an eye on the IGI to see if they get any records in for the right time period.

For the contact form on the genealogieonline site:
Uw naam = Your name
Uw e-mail adres = Your e-mail address
Uw boodschap = Your message
Boodschap versturen = Send message
Just above the "Boodschap versturen" button, there is a field to type in the number that is shown to the left of the field.
Thanks Cloggie, I must admit I had seen these trees, but hadn't thought to actually contact the owner. Just checking, it looks as though he is still logging in so might have some luck.
Thanks again.

In the menu on the left, click on "internet" under "General and Overseas".
Then, in the submenu at the top of the page that brings up, click on "nowadays Indonesia".
It's worth keeping an eye on this site as it is updated frequently.
Thanks Sarah, not heard of any of those people before, but some of the names used are family names, so definitely worth more digging - also need to have a look to find out where some of the places are in Indonesia. The only other thing I have managed to find out about him is that he was an official for the Dutch East Indies Company.
