There is this somewhat specialist site: News : Ship Photos - AIS - Free Membership - The worlds largest archive

But the pictures may be too modern for you.

Just an observation about Royal/ Merchant Navy. In this case it's merchant navy because the ships are SS (steamship). RMS (Royal Mail Ship) is another merchant ship designation. Royal Navy ships are designated HMS (His/Her Majesty's Ship).

Just to confuse things, occasionally a Royal Navy man serves on a merchant ship (my f-i-l was a RN radio operator on merchant ships in the WWII Atlantic convoys).

Hi John I am now confused lol the ships he worked on were ss ships all three ships had ss written infront of them
On his certificate from cwgc it says S.S Souliotlis (of Greece) merchant navy
Im not sure what this means ?

So I have answered my own question I think

Because you have the ships number you could try
                    www.miramarshipindex.org.nz/
I have found my dad's ships with lots of info but no pics
or www.theshipslist.com they do have a gallery.
