  • Which to order: birth or death Cert.?

Please have you any suggestions. I have a marriage Cert. for 1898 but in the Dec. Q of the following year 1899, both the wife dies and I suspect a son is born because in the 1901 Census he is farmed out to a relation and is listed as 'nephew' age 2.

My question is, which certificate will provide me with the most useful information? Both events take place in the West Ham Reg. Dist.

Is there any way of checking without the expense of certs?

    Thanks in anticipation
    Cheers

i think the death cert should say if she died from childbirth or any complications of it. then you would know for sure there is a child. is the surname a common one? if it is, how do you know this child on the census, is from this part of the family?

I would go along with that the death cert first and then the birth cert to confirm the parentage of the child.

Is there a birth registration of a child in the same quarter as the ladies death?

        Remembering: Cuthbert Gregory 1889 - 1916, George Arnold Connelly 1886 - 1917, Thomas Lowe Davenport 1890 - 1917, Roland Davenport Farmer 1885 - 1916, William Davenport Sheffield 1879 - 1915, Cuthbert Gregory 1918 - 1944

The child's baptism may be on the Ancestry LMA parish records and if the mother had died, it might say

West Ham isn't covered by the LMA records on Ancestry, unfortunately.

                Thanks tinkerbe

I've looked at Seax - Essex Archives Online, but I cannot find a link that takes me to baptisms, however this site is definitely worth exploring.

The birth certificate arrived and yes, under the mother's name was the word "deceased".

                Thanks everybody
