A marriage i cant find

I am having trouble trying to find the marriage of a relative , i am after the wifes maiden name.

The marraige was between John Rossetter B 1858, Lancing, Sussex
And Elizabeth ? born 1861? Worthing ,Sussex.

I have all thier family working forwards, and John s Family going backwards.

Try as i might i cant find the marraige or even puting in Elizabeth s details brings any sucess.

Any thoughts i may have missed?.

Can you give an approximate date of a possible marriage - e.g. year of first born child, or where you have found them together on a census.

There is a marriage of John Rossitter in East Preston registration district in Dec qtr 1880 on Free BMD. The only Elizabeth in the list on this page has the surname Leggatt. (2b 676)

East Preston is in the Worthing/Lancing area.

this is the only likely one in sussex.

where are you expecting them to have married? did they have children? can you get a birth cert to settle elizabeth's maiden name?

Can't find Elizabeth's birth in Worthing though, only one in Petworth in the right timeframe. Dec 1862 2b 271

Thanks for your help i could not find one despite finding his fathers marriage transcribed as Rosetta .

rosetta was one transcription i thought of when i said the name outloud. none came up for a john ros*a on freebmd though. i must admit i always search with wild cards these days. i almost never use a complete name. i guess the amount of mistrancriptions, i just want to find it the first shot, not having to sit there for hours wondering why i cant find it under a name.

Think i have found her birth

Elizabeth Leggatt 1861 Worthing 2b 281 correct year and area.
I feel the need for a marriage cert to be ordered .
