Hi all,
Anyone who knows of me already will be pleased to know that this particular conundrum has nothing to do with the names Henry or Alfred or Cresswell or Selwyn hee hee! It is, however, just as perplexing!!
My g-g-g-grandmother, Emily Rawlins, was born in approx 1834. The first I see of her is the 1841 census where she appears as follows:
1841 census transcription details for: Bevois Street, St Mary, Southampton
National Archive Reference: RG number: HO107 Piece: 417 Book/Folio: 3/15 Page: 24
Reg. District: Southampton Sub District: Southampton Parish: St Mary Enum. District: Ecclesiastical District:City/Municipal Borough: Southampton

Sex Age Birth Year Where Born
RAWLINS, Cornelious M 49 1792 Hampshire
RAWLINS, Elizabeth F 42 1799 Hampshire
RAWLINS, Jane F 24 1817 Hampshire
RAWLINS, Emily F 7 1834 Hampshire
(plus some lodgers)
FRIER, William M 40 1801
RAYNARD, Timothy M 29 1812
HARRIS, James M 28 1813
BULL, Jacob M 24 1817
MEAD, Felix M 23 1818
PRESTON, James M 23 1818
They also appear in the 1851 census:
1851 census transcription details for: 20, Houndwell Garden, St Mary's Southampton, Southampton
National Archive Reference: RG number: HO107 Piece: 1669 Folio: 418 Page: 7
Reg. District: Southampton Sub District: Southampton Parish: St Mary's Southampton Enum. District: 1T Ecclesiastical District:City/Municipal Borough: Southampton
Address: 20, Houndwell Garden, St Mary's Southampton, Southampton County: Hampshire
RAWLINS, Cornelius Head Married M 56 1795 Lab Portsmouth Hants
RAWLINS, Elizabeth Wife Married F 54 1797 Sussex
RAWLINS, Emily Daughter F 17 1834 Upholstress Chichester Sussex
By 1861, she was living with her husband in Blackwater, Surrey/Hants.
I can't find any trace of Cornelius or Elizabeth other than these two entries. I think I have found Jane Rawlins marrying a Peter Carroll on 3 July 1849 in Southampton: ancestry
That is literally the full extent of my knowledge about Cornelius, Elizabeth, Jane and Emily..... if anyone can find anymore I would be so grateful!
Thanks in advance
Rachel
