    Stevie 2006

Thankyou Steve for giving us a challenge for this week.

    Steve posted this earlier:

Jennie I have an ancester Ambrose Stokes whom I have received help before via this forum but don't know if anyone else can help further.

I know that his DOB is 21/11/1845 in Brentford and his death is 23/4/1887 in Brentford. His father was Samuel Stokes and mother was Sarah Nixon. I have him on board HMS Icarus on the 1861 census aged 15 as a boy 2nd class. I also have him on the 1871 and 1881 censuses.

I wondered if anyone could find him on the 1851 census cannot find him at all. Also wondered if there would be any way to find navy records that far back. He looks like he joined the navy then became a Waterman and some forum users have managed to find his apprenticeship date when he began training as a waterman.

I know very little on his parents as Samuel is a common name whereas Ambrose is more ny help on his parents would also be great.

Basically any more information on Ambrose, his career, census information and also help with Samuel or Sarah.

    Many thanks

    Steven

    1841 census - his parents

HO107; Piece 689; Book: 5; Civil Parish: Ealing; County: Middlesex; Enumeration District: 4; Folio: 6; Page: 4; Line: 16; GSU roll: 438805.

His baptism appears on LMA on Ancestry and Lucy is also on there.

Haven't found them on the 1851 census yet though.

          Also

Samuel Stokes - burial 5 December 1842 - St. George, Old Brentford - age 17 months.

He could be the child listed in the 1841 census with name not known, aged 2 weeks.

How sad if they are all the same family - losing three children within the space of a couple of months.

Only ones I cannot find deaths for are Ambrose b1845 and Sarah b1853
                    - and possibly Susan b1849 (she may be the Sarah buried in 1853 - same day as Ellen).

There is a burial on 21 Dec 1859 - New Brentford - for a Sarah Stokes age 46 (therefore born c1813) - worth making a note of.

Just checking this entry again and there is something written in the margin against each entry - looks like B9 - which could possibly be a grave reference. Same reference for each entry.

Their address in 1841 was The Hollows.
I can see Old Hollows and Hollows in 1851 - and they are not listed under either.
