  • Windows Word

My daughter has just started uni and has been told she needs Word. :F

Is there an alternative she could use as Word is so expensive - I thought Open Office was compatible but she's been told it's not??

    Thanks!

Load of rot Lindsay - Open Office will handle the same document types that Word will..

H'm, wonder if I can convince my daughter of that?

Perhaps if she sends me an open office doc and I open it here at home with Word...?

(Thanks for the quick reply Grim!)

All she needs to remember is to save it as a .doc file using the filetypes dropdown in the save dialogue

Have you looked at academic/student licensing?

the software licensing specialist This is one site which does them. You can save a fortune on the full price and they can still use them after they finish their studies.

http://students.pugh.co.uk/index.php...=50&prodID=659 for Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 at 90% off the full price!!

OO's fairly compatible with Word, but it tends to mess up the formatting - or at least it did last time I tried it.

I bought my son the Microsoft package from here

Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student Software UK at Software4Students.co.uk

which like the sites Caroline mentioned are for students at school and university.

£55.71 from Amazon (which is a bargain compared to the commercial licenses)...

Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student Edition (3 User Licence) (PC): Microsoft: Amazon.co.uk: Software

You get Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.

The version of Office that you can get from www.software4students,co,uk is the BEST one to choose.

Home and student edition that you can get fro Amazon or computer shops is more expensive AND.................
It does NOT include the database programe of Access, so if it were needed later. there would be the need to spend more money if you purchased the student and home edition.

I have 65 student at my college who all have purchased the Ultimate Edition from Software for Students.
All that is needed is an email account that ends in .ac or .edu, which proves that they are students.

Another offer for students is the new Windows 7 for only £30!
You get that from Microsoft at Microsoft Office Discount for Students - The Ultimate Steal
They do offer Office, but software4students is cheaper

And Pugh, the first one I posted, is fractionally cheaper still!

I have used them myself as a teacher and for my student daughter, not just for Office, but also for Creative Suite and her music software so saved a very large fortune - my only regret is that I ended up paying full price for Office 2007 as I forgot to get it before I retired!!
