I am trying to trace the death of Martin Grogan born Ireland 1815
Last trace I have is Birmingham census 1871. Where did he go.
Someone thought he might have gone to America. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

I've moved this thread to "Research Qs & As". It may get more of a response, especially if he went to America.

I could be completely wrong but I found this and most of it matches up except Martin has now become Patrick!! They are still in Birmingham

      Source Citation: Class: RG11; Piece: 2993; Folio: 11; Page: 15;GSU roll: 1341715
Patrick Grogan 64 Bricklayers labourer Born Mayo Ireland
      Mary Grogan 65 Mayo
Patrick W. Grogan 40 Bricklayer labourer Mayo
James Grogan 22 Bricklayer Lobourer Coventry, Warickshire
Annie Grogan 20 Solitaire Maker Coventry
John Noone 45 Bricklayer Labourer Mayo
Richard Noone 18 Coal Heaver Coventy
      Mary Noone 9 Birmingham

John Noone is the son in law. Son Patrick is a widower.

There is a death for Patrick Grogan in 1878.

As I say could be all wrong but couldn't find anything for Martin Grogan.

Is this the family in 1871?

... in which case I think this might be the same family in 1881 - with Martin being recorded as Patrick!

                  Sorry but are you sure?

I've found a rellie registered George Thomas after his Irish grandfathers - however he marries as Patrick and is registered on his death certificate as Patrick.

His son is also called Patrick - as was his father unless he too changed his name!!!

Is the Martin you are looking for the one that we have found in the 1871 census? If not can you give the census reference please.

                      Thanks for your pm Harry.

If the 1871 census is the correct family then I would suggest that Martin and Patrick are the same person. If you check the censuses we have found you can see that the rest of the family on each of the census entries are the same - so maybe in 1881 Martin was incorrectly recorded as Patrick, or he had two names and decided to use a different one for that census! Not unknown!!
