  • Dorset Mystery

Have been given some old sepia photographs by an elderly aunt of my husband. She is 97 this month but of quite sound mind and tells me they are of Elizabeth Richards born 1875 Alverstoke and her husband Wallace Squires. There is a photograph of the whole family outside a house in Longham, Dorset, including two cousins Violet and Hilda Squires. To date most of her information has proved invaluable, but I cannot find the Squires marriage and I am guessing that Violet May Squires born 1904 Poole is cousin Violet, I cannot hoever, find cousin Hilda.
    Many thanks

maybe if you find them in the 1911 census you can narrow their POB's and year of marriage down?

Thats the only Wallace marriage showing up on freebmd..

though nothing saying he wasn't living with Elizabeth but it might be a reason why you can't find a marriage to her..

I might be wrong, but it has happened alot, to alot of people.

lets see what happens if you find them in 1911 :smilee:

Can't find either of them on 1911, although photo I have is dated 1924, so they could be anywhere!

I think his surname was Squire (without the last 's')

1911 has a Wallace Squire with family including Elizabeth 1875, Hilda 1905 and Violet 1910 in Wimbourne.

There is a marriage in Wimbourne in Q/E Dec 1907 and 2 of the names are Elizabeth Louisa Richards and Wallace Thomas Squi__ but the image is definitely Squire

Many thanks, could see Elizabeth in the 1891 census living in a Naval orphanage in Portsmouth but then lost her. This is great.
