If you go to the Playback section on the link I mentioned above you will see this line.

ALLPlayer, MPlayer, VLC media player, Media Player Classic and more platform-specific players play VOB files.

        Click on the word 'players'.

A "Media player (application software)" page should open.

Scroll down and you will see a table, "List of media players".

If you have one from the table list on your computer then you should hopefully be able to play the file. You should have something already.

If you don't have one from the list click on one of the names that is suitable for your computer and by following links you should be able to download and install it.

Have you just tried double clicking on the file by the way?

I don't think that Adobe Reader will play the file. It looks as though the .vob file type maybe associated with the wrong application.

You will have to try to open the file with windows media player or something. Depending on what you have/use on your computer.

If you right click on the .vob file does it give you the option to open with windows media player, or any other media player?

I wonder if the .vob file actually contains anything.

You should see BUP, IFO as well as VOB files, as below:

                                VIDEO_TS.BUP
                                VIDEO_TS.IFO
                                VTS_01_0.BUP
                                VTS_01_0.IFO
                                VTS_01_0.VOB
                                VTS_01_1.VOB
                                [...]
                                VTS_03_0.BUP
                                VTS_03_0.IFO

If you look at the DVD in Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) the files should be in a directory/folder called VIDEO_TS. There should be another folder called AUDIO_TS but that's usually empty. As others have said you probably need to install some software to play the DVD in your PC but it should play fine in a standalone player if you have one.

Just a thought .... someone gave me a DVD of vidoes and pictures they had assembled on their computer. I couldn't get it to play on my computer. THEN ..... I put it in the DVD player attached to the TV - SUCCESS!

When I told my friend she laughed and said she had presumed I would use the DVD player :emb:

A .vob file isn't ment to be opened directly. You need to have a DVD Player application to do it.

                                        ----------

Install VLC Media Player from VLC media player for Windows

Once installed, run it, and then from the menu select Media, then Open Disc.

Select the DVD option, and choose the correct Disc device for the drive you have the disk in. Then click Play.
