  • my computer blew up and now I can't find the parts

So last Thursday my computer was on and just went bang...awful smell to boot. Took in into the repair shop and they sid that they think it's the power drive but they have a problem...the part needed is so unique they can't replace it with another to check if it is the power drive and they can't find replacement parts anywhere. It's a HP/Compaq D5s P4 1.7 GHZ + 40 GB HD 256 MB. I've emailed the guy I bought it off on ebay but he's about as helpful as a can of fish (bought it in December)

    Anyone got any ideas?

Generally, a new case would be rather inexpensive ... all they really need to match would be where the power connects into the motherboard ...

It might cost less than the "exact model" someplace else.

It might be better to go for a new/newer computer.

Just found someone is selling refurbished ones for £39

HP Compaq Evo D5s 1.7GHz Small Form Desktop XP CD-RW on eBay (end time 25-Oct-09 08:22:41 GMT)

Might be a better option as these are in working condition, however I
have just noticed they want to charge £18.50 for delivery as they are
using a courier to deliver :(

                That won't work.

As you can see from this image, it uses a non-standard power connection for the motherboard.
