  • Any one up for another challenge ?

O.k, so yesterday was not very successful. I am hoping that this request brings results!! However, I must warn you all it is the same family (lol).

Elizabeth Fletcher married William Wood 7 Oct 1839. They have a daughter Sarah born 1840 and in 1841 are living in Bilston -

Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece 1001; Book: 13; Civil Parish: Wolverhampton; County: Staffordshire; Enumeration District: 29; Folio: 27; Page: 12; Line: 3; GSU roll: 474628.

In 1851 they are in Portobello -
Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece: 2020; Folio: 379; Page: 17; GSU roll: 87424.

There after Elizabeth and William disappear of the radar completely (Sarah married in 1862 and I am not sure where she is in 1861). I can not find deaths, remarriages or census returns for the couple. That is not to say there are none, but with Wood for a name it is not easy to be certain.

I think there has to be a possibility that they emigrated as they only had one child (to my knowledge). But I do not have access to these records.

Any help will be appreciated - here's hoping.

      Hi Julie,

Elizabeth was baptised 29 April 1821, William I am not sure about, so I only have census returns to go on. According to census returns he was born c1811 Wrockwardine, Staffordshire

How sure are you that the family you have in 1851 is your family?

I have found this and it seems to tally with the 1841 cens.

ah the census ref is the same for the 1851 you found, it was the Portobello that threw me!

            thought that was London?

Hi Julie, Now I am confused. The source citation I gave was copied and pasted from the census return and is the same one you have a link to above??

they are either badly mangled or they died.. I can't see anything even remotely like it.. have you tracked Sarah to see if either of the parents are living with her later on??

                  Hi Julie,
Yes I have tracked Sarah right through to 1911. And she is definitely not with them. This is why I thought Elizabeth and William might have emigrated. Please could someone look at departure records to see if there are any likely couples?

                  Thanks, Sandra

if you goto FamilySearch.org - Family History and Genealogy Records

click on search records>>>records search pilot you can check records there to see if they went to the usa :smilee:

                      Hi Julie,

I have had a quick look, but it is like looking for a needle in a hay stack, particularly as I don't even know that they did emigrate and if they did where they ended up!!
