  • Dad's name please

Wow, I stop working on my tree for the summer and what happens? Ancestry have tons of lovely LMA records to look through and the 1911 Irish Census is fully online too! Anything else happen like the release of the 1921 census? :roll-eyes:

For now, can anyone work out the father's name of this marriage cert please. It's the ???????? William Collins one.

    Cheers

    Hail Spode!

I thought Richmond maybe - would he be on a census, or have a marriage record ? A soundex search on Richard might bring him up.

Thanks for looking. Well the Thomas getting married is on the 1871 census. He's 23, a Labourer and born in Newington, Surrey but I cant find him before then. There is a similar Thomas in 1861 but the father is Thomas. This name certainly isn't Thomas. It looks like est at the end to me.

Possibly Elaine, There were no Betseys or Richards as children though which to me seems odd.

This is Thomas and Clara in '71 - Ancestry.co.uk

Darksecretz: The marriage was in 1867 and Thomas was 19. In 1871 his place of birth was Newington, Surrey.

Not yet. Without the parents name, it could be any one of about 10, if indeed the baptism is there.

                      oh I see,

I have had a look for Richard William Collins, but not knowing where/when he was born is proving a little difficult to say the least.

do the witness' names give any clues Guy?

I'm afraid not. One is William Lamb, the other looks like Mary something but she looks to have been almost illiterate so the surname is a squiggle (how ironic, my spell checker had to correct my spelling of illiterate :p)

Oooh, no. I never look at Ancestry Trees, I can never understand them. I wonder if they took a leap of faith at those parents though as they haven't even got Thomas' wife's maiden name. I will contact them though. Thank you!

well they seem to have come to the conclusion that Richard and Betsy are his parents, whenever I do a search on the new search it always throws something back at me.. :smilee:

upon looking at the actual marriage transcription it does say Richard William Collins as Thomas Williams Father.

I have found them in 1891 btw, but cannot see them on 1901 yet.

I'm afraid they dont mean anything to me. They are probably friends or people working at the church.

The more I look at the name, the more I now am sure it is Richard. I'll start adding them to the tree now.

                                    Thanks for all the help.
