Lost my desktop?

Dont know how I did it but at one point I ended up with all "my documents" showing on the desktop and somehow managed to get rid of them all by hiding them or something but my icons for things like my recycle bin and all that went too. Basically I have nothing on the desk top now.

Ive looked at "desktop" in my computer and they are all sitting there but how do I get the desktop back on the start page please?:(

Right click anywhere on your desktop, select View - have you got Show Desktop Icons unticked.
