  • What age did you stop being a minor in 1816?

I have taken the plunge to get a months sub with Ancestry to view the new London records & have found loads.

I am puzzled by the marriage of my ggg grandparents in 1816. It shows the bride, Charlotte Hines as being a minor & marrying with the permission of Friends as her parents were deceased. I have Charlotte & husband William Brown, in 1841, which gives her birth as c1796, which would make her 20 at her marriage. Would this still have been classed as "Minor"?

Yes - you were a minor until you reached the age of 21.

Thats great, thanks Janet. I can now look to see if I can find her baptism.
