  • Great uncles ww1 service record ?

Hello. My great uncle was killed by spanish flu in 1918. I have a copy of a photo of him in navel uniform. Im sure my late dad told me that the uncle was a submariner. I cannot make out the name on his cap . I would love to know more about him , is it possible to obtain more info about him and how?

    Thanks very much. Tony.

Hi, if you can scan the photo onto your computer, you could try posting it on the photo thread. I did that with one of my photos and I got great help in identifying the uniform etc!

If you are the next of kin it is possible to buy records (£30) from the veterans association. http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records. If you are not the next of kin you need the next of kins permission.

      Hope this helps

        Tony,
TNA have seamans WW1 records, which you can download for £3.50 (I think).

The National Archives | DocumentsOnline | Advanced Search

see if his name comes up on here.

He may also be on the CWWG site

If a member of the family has his medals, this will give his service number, which helps with records.

If you post his name, I'm sure we'll help you look.
