  • Record Office: ACTIONED - Newcastle Central Library (probably)

If anyone is going I would appreciate a marriage look up for:

William Marshall to Ann Hindmarch, on 29th October 1808 at Chollerton, Northumberland. In particular I would appreciate her father's name.

I think the PR's for Chollerton are held at Newcastle Central Library, but am open to correction.

    Many thanks in advance
    Barbara

    Hi Barbara

The Bishops' Transcripts are online on the familysearch pilot site. Just had a quick look & it appears 1808 is missing :(

You have had a look for yourself here

    FamilySearch Record Search

BTW I don't think you'll find their father's names recorded for that year.

      Thanks JayG

If the father's names aren't recorded I still have the problem of which of two possible Ann Hindmarch's it is. Father could be either Thomas or Henry and they have children called Thomas and Henry

Thank you for the link too. i hsd forgotten about those BT's. However I haven't (yet) found the marriages on there.

        Hi Barbara

Have you seen the PR's for any of the children's baptisms? If they are before 1812ish they should tell you where the parents where natives of & MIGHT give Ann father's name.

Looking on the IGI Elizabeth born & baptised 1809 should state where the parents were natives of, but that year appears missing from the BT's too :(

              Page 72 on the BT's is 1810, looks like 1807 - 1809 are missing.

Thanks JayG, I've found the relevant bits now. As you say there don't seem to be father's names attached.

I'll have ahunt for the children's baptisms now as you suggest too.

Barbara if you can't find anything & get no response to this request if you email local studies they should be able to check for you as you have the date & parish.

Thomas baptised 2 Jan 1814 son of William and Ann Marshall. No mention of her fathers name or her maiden name unfortunately.

Thanks again. I'll keep hunting for a little while as I should be able to find other families in the BT's even if I can't sort this one out. I will email Local Studies if I don't get an answer as well.

I see you are a little closer to Newcastle than I am;)

As it is Heritage Open Day, I went into Newcastle early and called in at the library.

You will be disappointed at all it said was -

                      1808 October 29th

Marshall Wm ) botp B (I assume 'both of this parish' and 'bachelor')
                      Hiindmarsh Ann)

                      Ws James Hedley
                      Wm Hedley

There was no mention of parentage, sorry.

Our Hedley family came from Chollerston, so it is likely that these witnesses our part of our family.

                      Anne

                        Thank you for looking Anne

I'll have to have another think to see if i can work out who her father was.

Strange you should find (probbly) your own family as witnesses too.

If Anne or anyone else can I think the 1809 baptism needs to be looked at as this is during the Shute Barrington period (1798 - 1812).

                          The register should contain

                          Child's name
                          Seniority (eg. first son)
                          Date of birth
                          Date of baptism
Father's name, profession, place of abode and descent (ie names, professions and places of abode of the father's parents/father)
Mother's name, place of abode and descent
                          Jay
