  • John Blackman born 1824, Mayfield, Sussex

My Great Aunt wrote a letter to my mother in 1971 with as much detail about the family as she could remember and I'm working through all the information and trying to track them down. "Dad’s Uncle immigrated to the US and settled in Iowa". That was in the days when the Indians attacked the white people, burn their ranches etc. ".

John Blackman born 1st Feb. 1824 apparently married Frances (see 1851 census HO107/1640). I can't find any further trace of his family although I did find a John Blackman, master mariner in the 1861.

Could someone have a look and see if they can find anything more about these people. He may be a generation too early but I've looked at the later generation and there not many likely candidates.

    Thanks to all in advance
