I think she may come from St Petersburg and might have a link to OH's great gf.

Well actually, I'm none the wiser - This family do not want to be found. We think he was born in St Petersburg as part of the Swedish people there, but looking through the records of the swedish church there are very few mentions of Quarnstroms. However one name that has come up a few times is Aurora Quarnstrom (I've not come across that as a christian name often). Also the Date of birth, would tie in with ggf's. We think he was born about 1850-1854. So the possibility is it could be a sister, but then again it might not.

Hold on I've got this wrong - she came FROM the States. That changes things completely.
Ah well... Shame they didn't ask them where they were born.

GGf was Carl, but other names I have are Viktor Leopold, his wife Hedwig Gustafa Holmqvist and their son Rudolf Leopold. Also mentioned are Henrica Nathalia, Emilia Sofia, Ulrica, Anna Sofia and Catharina. These are mentioned in the payments books. I presume Viktor and wife and son are for the childs baptism.The womens names seem to come up about every 5 years, don't know why. At the moment I cannot trace any relationship between this lot, except that Aurora was Godmother to Viktor's son. Maybe sister?

So she did go to the States after all? Sique?? Very strange name and not one I've ever come across. Wonder if it could be a nickname or something. Have to get back to the Swedish records I think.

Thank you for your help - sorry to have taken so long but went out for a meal! I should have said that the Carl I am looking for came to England some time before 1891, and stayed here. At the time he arrived he was using the version Qvarnström. Unfortunately there is no trace of him entering the country at all. We have him on the 1911,1901 and 1891 censuses (1891 was a bit of a challenge as the name has been mistranscribed, but Christine in Herts found it). The name is reasonably common in the States but not in the UK.
