23-08-09, 13:24
I have just found out that a rellie of mine was in the Russian convoy in WW2, and was imprisioned in Russia.
Is there any way I could find more info on this.
Thanks

This might be useful:
The National Archives | DocumentsOnline | Merchant Shipping Movement Cards
There's some additional research guidance on the page.

Don't know about you but I'm certainly confused. If he was in a Russian convoy it was to take supplies to Russia who was our ally at the time, so why would they have imprisoned him?

Maybe it was in a bit that was temporarily under Nazi control?
Or maybe he got up to something naughty when he was on shore!

Are you sure it was WW2? British forces intervened in North Russia in 1918/19 and suffered heavy losses.

Definitely WW2 - I've spotted his "purse" at TNA - he wasn't born until 1924.
