  • 1901 census help required, lateral thinking required

Time for some help for you lateral thinkers, as I've been trying for ages with this one.

I am looking for a Marguerite Longland Lukes in the 1901 census. She was born in 1883 in Gravesend, Kent, her parents were Joseph Richard Lukes and Sophia Smith. She married Frank Day in 1908. I have her on census returns for 1891 and 1911 but not 1901. I have tried both ancestry and find my past with all sorts of combinations of searches, just looking for Marguerite's/Margarets born in 1883 in Gravesend etc etc. I have not been able to find another marriage for her prior to her 1908 marriage either. the family appear to be in or around the milton area of Gravesend. Any help as always is appreciated, she could of course be missing off the census, but just wondering if I am missing something obvious.
    Thanks
    Paul

If she was in service - which is quite likely, it might be that Marguerite Longland Lukes was a bit of a fanciful name - if she was, she might well be recorded as Margaret.

?Think you have tried that- sorry

On the 1891 record for Marguerite there is a correction by someone with a user name 'tifinuk' so it looks like that person is searching the same family as you. If you go to the record you can see the details and click on that person's link to make contact.

Is this her on the 1891 census? The actual census says she is Marguerite Lukes and her mother Sophia Lukes a widow and dressmaker. Just checking so I can have another look for her on the 1901.

                            Information removed.

Just an idea, but have you tried following up on her parents? Is it a possibility that her father had died, mum re-married & she could be on the census under stepfather's name.
