A care home manager has made an appeal for mourners to come to the funeral of a woman whose death has not been marked by a single friend or family member.
In a poignant echo of the Beatles song Eleanor Rigby, only Andrea Cole and a vicar are due to attend the burial of Myrtle Windle, who has died at the age of 84.
The 1966 single described the sad life of Eleanor Rigby who 'died in the church and was buried along with her name. Nobody came.'
Mrs Windle, who was once married but had no children, spent the last 18 months of her life at Sampford Care Home near Melksham, Wiltshire, but not a single visitor went to see her there.
After she died, manager Mrs Cole found a series of photographs of her as a young woman including one posing with colleagues from her work as a bus conductor.
Now her carer hopes former friends or colleagues of the late Mrs Windle may recognise the pictures and come forward to pay their last respects.
