  • Willy Stevens

William Stevens was born in 1829.
    His father was Richard Stevens.
We believe that he arrived in South Australiain 1848.
He Married 21 November 1849 at Willunga.
His wife was Rose Doherty an Irish orphan sent out to Aust in 1848.
They had 8 children and we know most of the rest of his Life
But what we do not know for sure but have theories but no proof of are
    Where was he born ?
Who was his mother we have his Fathers name Richard ?
How did he get to Australia there are no shipping records for him.?
Was he also an Orphan or from the poorhouse and sent out to Aust. ?
(There was a ship the Roman Emperor who arrived with 250 orphans on board but the names of the children aged 14 - 18 are not all recorded )
We have a theory that he may have come from Berkshire but have no proof

There are two William Stephens with fathers Richard baptised in Berkshire on the IGI - www.familysearch.org but you don't say why you have a theory he came from Berkshire. Like his wife he might also have come from Ireland?

Do you have information about what his father's occupation was?

If he was an orphan he may have been given his surname after birth and invented a father for respectability.
