  • trying to find a maiden name

    Hi all,

I have a bit of a brick wall and wonder if anyone can help.

I have a Sarah Plummer marrying Stephen Pegg in Depwade, Diss, Norfolk Q3 1888.
Sarah appears to have been born in Winfarthing, Diss, Norfolk abt 1816
Sarah also married a John Plummer at some point possibly around 1834 as they have a son Caleb born around then (he pops up in the 1871 census), no death record found yet, I also think the Plummers lived in Dickleburgh.

The brickwall is what was Sarah's maiden name? I am I must admit not that bothered about any offspring as Sarah is a distant twig from the main trunk of my tree, I would just like to know the maiden name so the record is correct and not 'unknown'

    Can anyone help?

Currently researching: Makey (Kent), Heath & Neil (London & Devon), Pegg (Norfolk & Suffolk), Gulliford (Cornwall).... Still busy busy!

There are also a few birth/christening records on IGI for a Caleb Plummer, bc1835, father is a John but mother seems to be a Mary.

        1) Caleb Plummer - M, b1835, Dickleburgh, Suffolk
        2) Caleb Plummer - M, b15 APR 1835
        3) Caleb Plummer - M, Christened 12 MAY 1835, Wesleyan Methodist, Diss, Norfolk

i suggest you trace sarah with both husbands. it may turn out caleb was her step son. therefore, it could be a marriage after 1835 we are looking for.

Winfarthing is very well represented on FreeReg.

It also has some early censuses WITH ALL the names 1801, 1811 and 1821. Just Google or look on GENUKI.

Not sure if it will help you but it might :D

It is John and Mary as parents. They have a daughter, Sarah in 1831 as well.

Oh dear, this distant twig seems to be generating more questions than answers!

I will now spend a few hours working through all the information and see what I can get to fit.

I will of course report back, many thanks all.
