  • Dicipher a Military record card.

I need help to decipher a military record card which may be my Grandad's

    Under Corps it reads
    M.G.C
    T.R.Bn
    RB OR 8

    Under remarks it reads;-
    Retd (992KR1923)4426/adt

    Bn is Battalion
KR kINGS REIMENT?1923 is year i presume.

    Hi Peter

This is useful for interpreting a medal index card

I think that MGC is Machine Gun Corps

The bit about "Retd (992KR1923)4426/adt" refers to the medals being returned (Kings Regulations para 992, 1923). There is an explanation here about that

M.G.C I'd imagine is Machine Gun Corps

      Under remarks it reads;-
      Retd (992KR1923)4426/adt

      Retd 992 Kings Regs 1923

This means for some reason his medals were returned as they could not be delivered to him, and an officer has taken them for safety. If after ten years they were still unclaimed, they were then broken up and scrapped. However the adt, suggest they were returned for 'adjustment' probably by the soldier himself, perhaps because name is spelled wrong, number wrong or something of that degree.
