  • Elizabeth Thomson

Can anyone help me please? I am looking for Elizabeth Thomson on 1861 census.
She was born in 1816 and married Adam in 1852. Adam was a widower. I cannot find either of them in 1861 and despite applying for numerous certificates, I cannot find a death entry.
When they married their address was given as LImehouse, in 1851 census Elizabeth{Chambers}was living at Coborn Road and Adam at Lamb Street. He was a master baker.

Have you found them in a census after 1861 - if so can you give a reference or details.
Do you know where Elizabeth or Adam were born?

No Elaine I cannot find them in any other census. My gut feeling is they both died, as Adam's 'young' children are living with an older sister.
Elizabeth was born in Stepney, and Adam in Scotland.
I think this family haunt me as I am unable to find John Elizabeth's father's death either!

Not having much luck I am afraid - you might be right that they died before 1861.

Thanks for those dates, they do all have a 'p' in Thomson, but I will have a go for Adam. I never considered putting a 'p' in. I used to be blonde!!

Elizabeth and Adam didn't marry until 1852 so that takes out 50% of the Elizabeths!

well, im glad that took out some competition. there arnt a lot of adam thom/p/son variants, but only one for stepney. the others seem to be st george hanover square way. i hope your family is mentioned above, because its not, it may be difficult finding the right one!!

It is only a 'side shoot', Elizabeth is my great great grandma's sister.
I keep hoping I will somehow find her fathers death. I have sent for so many certificates, I have almost given up!!

i know how you feel. the other thing you need to remember is the deaths may not have been registered, it wasnt compulsory to register things till 1875. another option is maybe the particular certs you want never made it to the gro.
i have quite a few possibles for some family members, and i hope i think clearly and decisively enough to get the right one before i get 20 wrong ones.
