  • W C Foster (Artist)

    Hello everyone

W C Foster was an artist who painted a portrait of one of my ancestor's (which you can see on the family tree photos) but no matter how much I google I cannot seem to find a reference to him.
Can somebody please help me locate info on him?
My ancestor was born in 1778 and died 1868, just so you all know the time frame were looking at.

Perhaps you could email to Christie's or somewhere like that for information. I couldn't see anything on a quick whip around google search result sites.

Christies is the auction house in London that sells stuff like paintings and they have experts there who know all about. You could try Sotheby's too

His name was John Peruden and he was very well known with the Hudson bay company.

                    HI danny

I understand you may be busy searching as we too may have been but here is a link that will give a bit of info - not much more than what bob gave you but it's there all the same

I googled John Peter Pruden numerous times and came across the info that they named it in honour of him and the big boss as they were both born in Edmonton Middlesex.
I am now in touch with hundreds of Prudens in Canada and they have passed on a mine of information to me.

                      Wendy

Thankyou for that link, I think perhaps that may indeed be the W C Foster I am after (fingers crossed I can prove it)

                        Danny.
It's a small point, but why do many of the web references to the Pruden painting list the artist as W.C.FORSTER (not Foster)?

Also none of the references that I have seen for William Foster give a middle initial.

Are you sure that you are looking for the details of the correct painter?

Most of the Pruden relatives believe it is Foster but there is dabate that it may be Forster or Forester.

                          Neither come up with results.

What does it say on the portrait, and what does the Museum say on the topic?

I believe the museum have the artist down as W C Foster but they know no more on him than his name.
