Desktop background help please?

I have a photo of my hubby as my desktop background. Yesterday I decided to change it to a different photo of him for a change. However, as soon as I had done it I could have kicked myself because I had the same problem I had last time - the photo goes wide to fit the screen and makes him look wider It took me days last time to work out how to cure the problem and I seem to think that I altered the photo in some way but I can't remember how and I can't find a special copy that I saved or anything

Could some kind person please tell me how to get the photos I want to use not to look wide before it drives me round the bend trying

Using XP, right click in an empty space on your Desktop select Properties, then the Desktop tab, there's a box on the right that says stretch with a tick in it, take the tick out and then there's a drop down menu to select other options.

WOW - there wasn't a tick to stretch but there was a choice of Stretch (which I was on) or tile (which made him nearly disappear below the background) :D or Centre, which I have chosen. He almost fills the screen now :D:D
