Would a person who was discharged from the Army 1916 on medical grounds also receive the The British War Medal and The Victory Medal?

My grandfather was dicharged in 1916 on medical grounds, but he re-enlisted with another regiment and went to the front line and was killed in action. He was awarded his medals.

Maybe it depends on whether they saw action abroad.

Were they discharged before they went overseas? If you served overseas you got at least one, can't remember which of the two off top of my head think it may have been the Victory Medal. You definently got both if you'd seen active service whilst doing so. If you didn't go abroad before being discharged on medical grounds or grounds of age, no you would not have received either, though I think you qualified for a Silver War Badge.
