  • oglet barn,Hale Village 1640-(1841 census please)

Hi...working in an old farmhouse built 1640 ( sandstone block with date on it)..
It is called Oglet Barn....Hale Village...nr Liverpool
I am going to go to the Tithe survey for 1834...could someone please try and find the tenants in 1841 please...Hale village now has a Liverpool postcode ,but in 1841 would be classed as Lancashire.....cheers...allan

I've just found Hale and am beginning a trawl. The enumerator's got beautiful handwriting, bless him, but it doesn't look as if there are many addresses...I'll report back later.

No addresses at all in the 13 pages of the township of Hale, (comes under parish of Childwall Lancs) there are a lot of saltboilers living there.

Thanks Jill...it would appear OGLET might have been a village of its own then...a lot of it was demolished to make way for Liverpool Airport...so the 1841 census might be for Oglet...NOT HALE....cheers...allan

on the Tithe survey for Hale it has along the coastline of the river mersey...
Speke then Dungeon then Oglet then Hale.....I`m a little lost because I`m not sure whether Dungeon is part of Speke and Oglet is part of Hale or they are 4 seperate villages.....Allan

Old-Maps - the online repository of historic maps - home page

Shows very clearly Oglet as a seperate place. Go to above and click the lower left box, type in Oglet in the top search box and you will find 5 addresses in the drop downs one is Oglet barn itself. Use the left and right arrows on the small maps to move back and forward in map time.
