  • Death record

I have been looking forever for the death of my GG Grandmother Jane Russell.

I have just found a record for Jane Jones . Age at death 79. District Gravesend. 1874.

Jones was her maiden name, she was born in 1795 and the last time I found her was on the 1851 census in Gravesend.

it all fits except the name.

Has anyone else found their maiden name used?

    Sorry false alarm

I've just found Jane Jones in 1861 census Gravesend with different husband and born in wrong place.

    Back to the drawing board.

could she have re-married at all??

have you found/tracked any children through the census to see if she appears with her children at any point?

In 1841 she was with family in Dover.
In 1851 she was in Gravesend with husband William and son George.
She had three other sons Edward, William and Alfred. She wasn't with Edward or Alfred in further census and son William I haven't found.

I got quite excited when I saw that but there are several things wrong.

Father William was deceased when his other son married in 1855.
" " was born in Staffs
Mother Jane was born in Salop
Son William would have been older.

What a shame. I want to believe it.

                Thanks

Was there any kind of split in the family?

My grandmother gave her father as "dec'd" on her marriage cert, but he didn't actually die until some months later. Her father was living apart from the family at 1901, but I hadn't been sure whether that was because of a split, or just that he was away that night for work. The marriage cert convinces me that they'd split up. I don't know whether my great-g-mother's having lied about her age (claiming to be 7 years younger than actual) contributed to their problems!
