  • Caroline Stampa disappeared from census help please??

Time for some different thinking, I am really struggling...........I have a Caroline Stampa born appx 1805ish in Edinborough, Scotland. I have her listed in all the census from 1841 up to 1891 apart from the 1881 census.

    1841 she is in Edinborough
    1851 she is in Edinborough
1861 she is in St.Pancras, London
1871 she is in St.Pancras, London
1891 she is in St.Pancras, London

She does not appear to have been married and has lived with her brother Louis Stampa and also her sister and brother-in-law Nicolina and Thomas Wootton. Its been bugging me for sometime, she could of course have been missed of the census, but I just wonder if I have missed her somewhere. Time for some of your lateral thinking.
    Many thanks
    Paul

In 1881 I think she is down as Nancy or Mary (can't read it) Stamps with her sister and b in law at 23 Hadley St, St pancras

I was trying to find her on 1891 to see where she was living and can't find that one. Was it 1891 or 1881 that you were missing?

it is the 1881 one that I am missing. I thought this read Mary Stamps, the age as 44 did not fit her being born around 1805 so I had dismissed this as being possibly her sister??

I think the age is 77. If you have a look at the other ages on the page 4 is written elsewhere quite clearly.

Also there is a death registration in Q/E June 1892 Pancras for Mary Caroline Stampa aged 87 which may well be her - could Mary have been the name she was known by.

Perhaps someone else could have a look and see what they think it says?

Well done Jackie! I tried last night but had no luck.

I think it says Mary, age 77. Taken in conjunction with the Mary Caroline Stampa death, I think this 1881 entry has to be Caroline.
